How long have you lived in Winnetka? (Allison) We’ve been here seven years. (Marshall) Yep. March of 2016. (Allison) We actually met and married in Los Angeles and soon after moved to Evanston. We were there for two years before making the move to Winnetka. We were moving for Marshall’s job, which is in Winnetka. (Marshall) Evanston was the gateway to the suburbs. It’s kind of suburban, but somewhat urban. It was enjoyable living there.

Where are you originally from? (Allison) I grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles called Palos Verdes Estates. I lived in Southern California my entire life before Evanston. (Marshall) I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Then, moved kind of around within the Dallas area. Since then, I have lived in eight different states. I left for college, and haven’t been back, but Dallas is home.

Do you have any favorite community events? (Marshall) I would say the best day in Winnetka is the fourth of July. We also love the music fest, the parades. We got a little seven-year-old guy, who marched in the Memorial Day Parade. (Allison) The thing I think is so cool about the community is people move here and are all in on the community events. It’s not like you’re the only one there waving the flag; everybody else is too. It’s just so much fun.

How are the schools & summer activities? (Allison) We’re really thankful to be raising our son here in Winnetka, because it’s really a special place for kids. He goes to Crow Island School, and we love Crow Island. We feel like the school loves our son and that they know him. They pay attention to his needs. And that really feels great as a parent. (Marshall) He’s seven, finished first grade going to second, and that’s the best. The resources that are devoted to the children, our child in particular, are really astonishing. We’re very thankful for that. (Allison) We’ve had so much fun meeting the parents of his friends. Getting to know the baseball team and all the different things that he does. We get to know all the parents on the basketball team. It’s fun.

Do you work in the area? (Marshall) I am a pastor at Grace Presbyterian Church. Allison is working part-time for the church now, too. So she runs all the parties. It’s fun to have her on the church staff.

Would you like to share more about Winnetka? (Marshall) I just think Winnetka is a place that we kind of loved it from day one, and we love it more and more. Especially as our son gets older, it’s just such a great place to raise a family because of those relationships, the people. You know more and more people, the web gets thicker and thicker. It just makes it that much more rewarding. Even your tagline of Live Winnetka, like its present tense, it’s active, it’s living into it. Like the more you give yourself to Winnetka, it’s a place that gives itself back to you and just enriches your experience. People just love living here.
